I can only hope that when I am older I have a voice as commanding, deep, and real as Mr. Leonard Cohen's. On "Darkness," that smokey baritone is front and center, just as it should be. Cohen's delivery alone has the strength to carry the song -- I can almost envision it as an a cappella piece. Like he has for years, Cohen makes the dark side of things seem so appealing, or rather so attractive. Melancholy always sounds like the most precious, beautiful thing in the hands of this legend.
