The Get Up Kids' "Automatic" Available Now, Grab the 7" Before It's Released

Just last week, I shared "Pararelevant" from The Get Up Kids new album, There Are Rules, their first LP of all new material since 2004's Guilt Show. The band released another new song from the album entitled "Automatic" for download on iTunes yesterday. Hear the song below.

While the iTunes single includes only "Automatic," the 7" features B-side "Past is Past." The 7" will be officially released on January 11th, leading up to the January 25th release of There Are Rules. However, for those interested in grabbing the "Automatic" 7" right now, there's no need to wait until the official release date. You can pick up a copy through a special pre-order by visiting The Get Up Kids online merch store (link below).

BUY: Pick it up digitally on iTunes. The 7" is available now here.

The Get Up Kids Share "Pararelevant" From New LP

The Get Up Kids returned from their 2005 break up in 2008, touring the globe, but with no new album under their collective belt. Well, that's about to change next year with the release of the band's fifth full-length entitled There Are Rules (album art above). As a teenager, I assumed, and only really knew, The Get Up Kids as just another pop punk band -- a foolish write-off on my part for a variety of reasons. The band once again proves me a fool with new song "Pararelevant."

"Pararelevant" shows a determined, welcomed evolution in sound. They work at a frantic pace throughout on an ebullient, heavily-distorted bass riff and rapid fire guitar lines. With synthesizer rising and falling throughout, the song becomes rather spacey as it races along. But what ends up being the most gripping element here is the tension throughout; it always seems as though it's about to burst at the seems, but they exhibit just the right amounts of control and chaos.

The Get Up Kids will release "Automatic," a limited edition 7" single, on January 11, 2011 followed by There Are Rules on January 25th via their own Quality Hill Records.
