LISTEN: Minus the Bear B-Side "Broken China"

Minus the Bear are currently in the midst of their fall tour and are scheduled to release their fourth studio album in early 2010. A few weeks ago, the band released the "Into the Mirror" single featuring the b-side "Broken China," which you can download below. The single is the first off the band's forthcoming record and is an early indicator of what is sure to be another fantastic record from the band.

MP3: Minus the Bear - "Broken China"

Talk about entering triumphantly. "Broken China" is a defeated lover reflecting somewhat encouragingly on a failed relationship. Snider's delivery is smooth and confident as always surrounded by the trademark guitar interplay he manages with Dave Knudson. The verses are pulled along by the staccato of the guitars and bass, with Alex Rose's ethereal synthesizer intensifying the atmosphere. Drummer Erin Tate cuts into the chorus with slices of hi-hat clearing way for searing string bending and heavy-hitting, fuzzed-out bass. The guitars riffs are top-notch, bookmarked here by delay pedal fiddling creating both a fitting intro and a proper finale that follows Snider and Knudson trading lead riffs that alternate up and down the fretboard. It's as if the guitars plot out a graph of the rise and fall of the relationship.
