SEE & HEAR: Ima Robot - "Ruthless"

Before Alex Ebert was fronting Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, he was in a band called Ima Robot, along with guitarist Tim Anderson and bassist Fillip Nicolic. On October 19th, Ima Robot will release Another Man's Treasure. And while some might jump to wondering how Ebert made time for Ima Robot in between touring and promoting Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' debut album, Ebert says in a press release that the music on Another Man's Treasure has been around for quite some time. “What we offer here is a collection of songs from the end of an era. Most were recorded between 2 and 4 years ago, a time when none of us were sure what our band was, a time of transition," says Ebert. "We feel they make an album -- and, perhaps, the proper eulogy and remembrance of a band that was -- and the twinkling of a band to come.”

The album was produced by Anderson (Dead Man's Bone's, The Goat) and will be released on Anderson's own Werewolf Heart Records.

Hear the spacey, synth-driven, Bowie-esque "Ruthless" from the new album and see the trippy, animated video for the song after jump.

Ima Robot have seen a lot in their time. After releasing two albums on Virgin Records, they're now working with a newfound independence. Alex Ebert reflected on the band's journey.
Keep the name, though I now nearly hate it -- an old-times-sake victory strikes again. Intellectually I make attempts: ‘Ima’ means 'mother' and ‘Robot’ means 'work' (in languages you can have fun guessing at)... But I guess, in honesty, I must admit it means nothing in particular- the perfectly clean, messy, comfortably confused slate for a band in the same state. I started this band over 12 years ago. We've been through every nook and asshole of the 'Business' only to find ourselves back where we started -- without the business.

Alex Ebert recently collaborated with director Spike Jonze to make a spectacular skate video featuring unreleased Ima Robot songs. Learn more about the video here and watch it below.
