LISTEN: Scattered Trees - "Love and Leave"

By Drew Reynolds

MP3: Scattered Trees - "Love and Leave"

Two souls parting, love dividing, leaves such bittersweet emotions stirring in the heart and in the mind. Looking back catches the heartbroken in a web of nostalgia, remembering the good times over the bad. Love is sweet; love is sour. At the end of the journey the heart is whole and stronger than it ever was, because no matter the outcome, the heartbroken realizes that Alfred Lord Tennyson was right: "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

Some songs are ripe with vibrant tones, and for me, "Love and Leave" is one such song. Singer Nate Eiesland has a soothing sincerity to his voice, sounding as though he's addressing you almost directly as opposed to the intended subject of his words. "Love and Leave" blossoms as it progresses, revealing the beauty found in this sincerity and in the warmth of the guitar and drum tones.

Scattered Trees' new album will be out in Spring 2011. Stay tuned for details.
