Who doesn't like good, free music? Brisbane, Australia has quite a burgeoning independent music scene, and, for the uninformed, Sounds Like Brisbane (aka SLB or soundslikebrisbane) is helping those outside the community to hear and learn more about the city's music. SLB is a collective of Brisbane-based indie labels, a united force to help spread the word and get their bands heard. So far, 17 labels are represented, with more to join soon. It tends to be the case that city's usually have one predominant scene, with one predominant genre, but Brisbane is home to everything from garage rock to rap and everything in between.
SLB just released a FREE 2011 sampler for download (not even an e-mail address is required). Simply titled "Sounds Like Brisbane 2011 Sampler," the 17-track compilation features labels like 777 Operations, Mere Noise, and Useless Art Records. You've got everything from the Death From Above 1979 noise rock/dance punk of DZ Deathrays ("Blue Blood"), the garage psych of Regurgitator ("Nrob Bmud"), the math rock-oriented sound of Mr Maps ("Tennis Party"), the pop punk of Undead Apes ("Taxes") and more.
Stream/download the whole thing after the hop.
