LISTEN: ILLUMNTR - "gulf hymn"
By
Quinn S.
Back in January of this year, I shared the new Conveyor single entitled "Mukraker." The single is actually part of a split with the b-side featuring "gulf hymn," a song by another Brooklyn band called ILLUMNTR. Take a trip by listening to the track below.
If you ever wondered what R&B might sound like in the future -- say if a bunch of dudes who were into psychedelia were involved -- here it is. With spacey layers of vocal harmonies floating over a skittish sort of beat that thumps, clicks, and clanks, "gulf hymn" is a slick, soothing piece of experimental pop that's abstract just enough to make you lose yourself within its marvelous construction and arrangement. It's a sonic journey through heartbreak.
The band also recorded a live record in a New York City Cathedral at the tail end of last year. You can check out and download that release below.
