Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Release New Single, LP News

MP3: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - "Sink/Let it Sway"

What's in a name? Honestly, I never really looked into this band past their name. I've had a few singles but never really checked out their discography past that -- a total mistake on my part. The name isn't all that's memorable about this band. What's in a name? Here, a lot of substance behind a playful face.

SSLYBY (for the sake of syllables) makes simplified indie rock, but, like their name, you have to look past what's on the surface. The band manages to match slow-burn, reverb-soaked riffs beautifully with descending keyboard riffs, chimes, and power chord-propelled, tube amp-driven progressions, taking us on one hell of an audible adventure. The song starts on a lazy Sunday car ride through the country and ends at a raucous party on a twilight covered beach. Whether it's the plays at surf rock, garage rock, or '50s-style pop rock, SSLYBY keep things interesting and pack the perfect amount of stylistic changes in a short 3:06. On the strength of this song, I just pre-ordered my copy of the Georgia Peach-colored vinyl edition of the band's forthcoming album, Let It Sway. Don't be foolish like me. Check out this band right now.

SSLYBY's new album is entitled Let It Sway and was produced by Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla (yes!) and Beau Sorenson (Death Cab For Cutie, Sparklehorse). It's out August 17th through Polyvinyl.
