LISTEN: J Roddy Walston & The Business - "Don't Break the Needle"

MP3: J Roddy Walston & The Business - "Don't Break the Needle"

In the movie Spinal Tap, there's a scene where infamous shredder Nigel Tufnel shows off a Marshall amplifier head that he proudly points out "goes to 11." It's all about volume and sheer rock 'n' roll madness, and, in order to reach such a point, he gets an amp that goes beyond the standard volume of 10. J Roddy Walston & The Business defines that "extra push over the cliff" because they are pure, unadulterated, 100% proof rock 'n' roll. When it comes to volume and energy, it's pretty difficult to find a band that plays harder and goes to 11 more than this band. They're one of the few bands out there that's keeping the true spirit of rock 'n' roll alive, playing heavy and hitting hard.

Sounding like a cross between Ronnie Van Zant and James Brown, Roddy leads the Business with a seemingly endless supply of energy and vocal charisma, pounding out parlor-ready piano lines; Billy Gordon tastefully pumps up your adrenaline with his slide and string bending; Logan Davis pummels with thick low end like a punch to the gut; and Steve Colmus keeps things interesting on drums, playing patterns that you'll be hard pressed not to air drum to.

"Don't Break the Needle" is the first track off of the new self-titled album by the band which is out next Tuesday, July 27th on Fairfax/Vagrant. Preorder it here.
