Spider (aka Jane Herships) can do so much with a whisper, with an airy note sustained for just a few seconds. It's music with such a delicate, hushed beauty that features elements of folk as well as the hypnotic undercurrent of psychedelic rock. It's a moving a sound never attached too much to any one emotion, free of this earth's weight. Herships' voice is that one thing in the desert that keeps your legs moving and motivates you to carry on despite the beating of the heat. Spider is the filler of voids, the panacea for that miserable feeling inside of you. It's the sound of solace; a strangely familiar comfort that you can't help but feel at ease with. Jane Herships produces that sort of haunting beauty with Spider that removes you from your present surroundings and carries you away into the night, away with the freedom of the wind.

Jane Herships has been the touring guitarist for Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, as well as one of the original members of the Amazing Baby lineup. Aside from Spider, Herships currently plays guitar and sings in Scorpio Rising, an all girl band out of Brooklyn.

"White Snake," "Snow Melts in Summer," "Song of Jamaica," and "Air" are from Spider's latest album, Things We Liked to Hold (spidersongs 2010). Stream it below. Pick it up here.
