Silje Nes - "The Glass Harp"
More about texture than hooks, "The Glass Harp" is as beautiful as its title suggests. An anchor of fingerpicked electric guitar guides the song along as sounds of the sea flow in; as a turbulent storm of distortion boldly enters and exits; as a jangle of electric guitar chimes in; and as warm strings add a level of depth to the song's overall shy charm. It's the sound of peering into the eyes of someone who draws your affection. Silje Nes crosses folk, pop, alternative, and shoegaze, capturing a palette of earthy tones and textures. The hook lies in how she manipulates her whispery delivery into something bigger than it is on the surface, resulting in a song that's incredibly humbling. It's like the auditory equivalent of standing at the edge of a cliff, looking over the restless sea as wind rustles through your hair.
