SEE & HEAR: Antony & The Johnsons - "The Spirit Was Gone"

By EPA/Grzegorz Momot

In the cadence of the piano, in the silence that marks each passage of chilling notes, there's such gripping heartache. It's as though there's no bottom to the depths of Antony's emotional delivery. As strings creep in, it's hard to not find yourself lost inside the melancholic beauty that fills Antony's pained delivery. With it's delicate nature, I find myself struggling not to get swept away by its dark magnetism. It's filled with such sorrow, but it is so awe-inspiringly beautiful, so captivating. "The Spirit Was Gone" is one of those rare songs that once it's over, you realize that you've been away from reality and completely unaware of your current surroundings.

Check out the equally moving video for "The Spirit Was Gone" after the jump. It's very simplistic, but rather expressive.
