Courtesy Tier has jumped in size a few times. And despite the fact that they now only count two members, they sound no less well-rounded or big. For this Brooklyn duo, fewer members leads to a much more honed approach, creatively, or rather seamlessly, mixing a variety of genres (e.g. blues, rock 'n' roll, math rock, post-rock, etc.) to create something bigger than themselves.
Nowhere is this more apparent than in the song (and video) for "Rescue." The sound of optimism getting tangled in dissonance and sinking into ethereal drones begins to turn hope into worry. There's a good amount of subtle symbolism that appears throughout the video: a rope unraveling, ghosts of trees, light cutting and searching through the dark. With a math rock rhythm and lead guitar riff leading to folk rock realism and harmonization, "Rescue" is a battle -- both lyrically and sonically -- of trying to hold tightly onto hope in a storm of uncertainty.
