On November 13th, Jagjaguwar will release a deluxe edition of Sharon Van Etten's stellar 2012 album Tramp. Along with the original release, the deluxe edition features demo versions of every album track along with the previously unreleased bonus track, “Tell Me.”
A mark of any truly great songwriter is his or her ability to capture a listener's attention with hardly any instrumentation -- and that's just what Van Etten does with "Tell Me." To say her voice is hauntingly beautiful would be like saying the winter is cold. There's a story in her inflection as much as their is a story in her lyrics. She sings with a sort of plaintive tone that manages to defy the weight of melancholy thanks to her brilliantly sweet tone, one that carves beautiful moments out of loss and heartbreak. It's just another piece of evidence that Sharon Van Etten is one of this generation's greatest songwriters.
