LISTEN: The 88 - "They Ought To See You Now"
By
Quinn S.
L.A.'s The 88 recently released a new single entitled "Love Is the Thing," recorded entirely on an iPhone using the FourTrack application (single art above). You can grab the track on iTunes and watch the video of them recording the song here.
As previously reported, The 88 have a new self-titled album on the way, due out on September 14th. Below you can hear a song from the new album.
The 88 - "They Ought To See You Now"
A straightforward rocker, with bursts of organ that tear through crisp electric guitars. The guitars rock and rolls, energizing the song along with the impassioned vocal delivery of singer Keith Slettedahl. It's tight-knit with perfectly placed fills and stops. It's the equivalent of driving around in the summer with the windows down, air combing your hair.

The 88 Set to Release New Album, Record Song on iPhone
By
Quinn S.
Los Angeles-based rock band The 88 is set to release their new self-titled album on September 14th, exclusively through iTunes. The record will be available at retail and through all digital outlets starting September 28th through 88 Records via Rocket Science. It was recorded and produced by the band in between worldwide tours as both opening and backing band for Ray Davies of The Kinks.
If you think you've never heard The 88 before, then you're probably mistaken. The band was labeled by Spin as the "best band you didn't know you'd heard." The 88 have toured with Smashing Pumpkins, the B-52s, The Flaming Lips, Rilo Kiley, and the late Elliott Smith. Their music has been featured on hit television shows like How I Met Your Mother, Grey's Anatomy, Weeds, Gossip Girl and Community (they perform the main theme song!), as well as in national Sears, Target, NASCAR, and NFL campaigns.
Hop the fence to watch the band record their song "Love Is The Thing" entirely on an iPhone using the FourTrack app. It seems like a lot of artists are recording using the iPhone these days, but the video of the recording process for this song is pretty cool.
