LISTEN: black channels - "Oracles"

Finding beauty in comforting, welcoming sorts of things is all well and good, but finding beauty in darkness, in the haunting aspects of life, is a rather remarkable thing. That unexpected discovery of warmth in a seemingly unsettling void of nothingness makes beauty all the more enrapturing, inspiring, and lovely. Hanging on the fence between light and dark, you can see the true nature of both sides and how the contrast between the two defines all that surrounds us.

While incredibly eerie and dark in tone, London-based black channels' new 2-song EP, Oracles, radiates an unmistakable beauty. Imagine Radiohead, Portishead, and Beach House teaming up to make chillingly beautiful, hypnotic, goth-tinged electronica and, I suppose, that sort of scratches the surface of things. Theirs is a quiet but encompassing sound that's just as ethereal as it is visceral; it's a sound you don't so much listen to as much as you get swept away and lost within.
