Baltimore-based Small Sur are preparing for the release of their new EP Bare Black, which comes to us via the fledgling Aural States label here in Bmore. Just a little more than 3 weeks away, the Aural States blog has tossed up a single of sorts from this sleepy folk collective.
"Weeds" which you can listen to on the AS blog (here) is a must listen for fans of Fleet Foxes, Horse Feathers, Phosphorescent, Townes Van Zandt, Deer Tick, etc. It's a drifting folk tune, with some gorgeous pedal tones from strings (cello or bass violin) and crystal clear melodies. There's sleepy slide guitar, and a haunting sense of emotion which challenges the listener to re-spin the track to try and put a finger on that feeling.
Small Sur are booked to debut their EP Bare Black at The Windup Space on July 9th, with a tour of the Northeast to kickoff in August.
