California's noise pop/garage rock/post-punk revivalists Crocodiles release a new album on September 14th entitled Sleep Forever. We've already heard the title track and first single "Sleep Forever" which provides a good idea of what the new album sounds like. I've had the opportunity to hear the record, and I can tell you that it's a damn good record. It was produced by Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford and has a lot more of a neo-psychedelia, shoegaze sound running through it. The band have moved from making fuzzed-out jams in the garage to crafting songs that sound absolutely massive, like they would be perfectly capable of filling a stadium.
To hold us over until the album's release, Fat Possum and the band released a free instrumental EP today called Fires of Comparison. It was written and recorded between the completion of Sleep Forever and the band's return to performing live. The Jon Greene-produced EP is a 4-song collection of ideas that the band weren't able to explore while recording the new album in Joshua Tree, CA due to time constraints. There are no vocals on the EP because the guys contracted strep throat after sharing a pipe with a hobo in San Diego's Presidio Park. This just so happened to occur before they hit the studio to record. Check out the EP below.
