LISTEN: Sport of Kings release "Free Jazz" 7"

I know that as the days grow longer, I'm looking forward to summer road trips...windows down on the highway, maybe cruising home to Northampton or out to the beach, or even to a festival for the weekend. Either way, anyone who enjoys road trippin' in this world knows you need the right musical aids to solidify the mood, and that's where Brooklyn outfit Sport of Kings come in.

Riding the rolling melodic waves of songwriter Richard Kelly, Sport of Kings recently traded in a second guitarist for a Fender Rhodes and absorbed a three-part horn section, and they've rightly realized a very groovy dream. To really stretch for some comparison, I'd like to think that Sport of the Kings is the carefree, surf-loving child of Yo La Tengo (circa Summer Sun) and Tahito 80 (circa Wallpaper for the Soul). No matter how you compare them, both "Free Jazz" and the b-side "1964" have a particularly warm appeal for those dreaming of hot sun, cool water, and lazy lounging.

So if you're looking for two tracks to hasten the approach of warmer days and the open road (or the open sea), hop on over with us for an exclusive Free Jazz 7" listening opportunity via Sport of Kings' Bandcamp site.
