SEE & HEAR: Family of the Year - "Stupidland"

MP3: Family of the Year - "Stupidland"

Under "Genre" on their Facebook page, Family of the Year have "American Music." Generally speaking, that pretty much nails it, especially in the case of "Stupidland." It recalls the ethos of the '60s Laurel Canyon scene with its acoustic frame and golden harmonies feature both male and female vocals. When it shifts into first gear, it's nothing but pure, foot stompin' rock 'n' roll. It's free and spirited, never overcomplicating things. I also can't shake a Fleetwood Mac vibe that comes to mind as Family of the Year harmonizes over confidently strummed acoustic guitar and the stomping march of kick drum.

You may already be familiar with another Family of the Year song entitled "Chugjug," which happened to appear in this recent Advil commercial. However, in true American band fashion, Family of the Year is much more successful overseas than here at home having recently landed a #1 radio hit in France and sold out shows in London.

See the stop-motion magic of the video for "Stupidland" after the hop. The band gets submerged in a sea of paper. It's sweet.

"Stupidland" is from Family of the Year's 2009 album Songbook. The band recently completed a new album schedule for release within the next few months.
