Strong Killings - "Annals of Animals"
As a fan of rock 'n' roll, sometimes you find yourself searching for something that hits hard -- but not too hard -- and packs a melodic, catchy punch. Enter Strong Killings with "Annals of Animals." It runs on pure gasoline and adrenaline, with crunchy, quickly-strummed electric guitars and unrelenting, energetic drums. It's an anthem about learning and letting go, casting off inhibitions to go with the flow of things. This is a song that is both a blast and a shot of confidence, straight in the arm.
"Annals of Animals" comes from a family of strong tracks, that just so happens to be the band's eponymous debut album. The trio (guitarist/vocalist Nate Mooter, bassist/vocalist Carlos Lopez, and drummer Mike Loggins) met while partying and playing in other bands, which pretty much gives you an idea about the feel of the record (well, a very loose idea). Strong Killings is nonstop fun, finding a way to blend rock 'n' roll, surf rock, power pop, punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, and even rap (yes, rap) into one hell of an agreeable mix.
