Download The Weeknd's New Mixtape "Thursday"

Earlier this year, The Weeknd released a surprise hit with the House of Balloons mixtape. Not long after that, it was revealed that there were plans to release two more mixtapes before the end of the year, one titled Thursday and the other titled Echoes of Silence. With the buzz surrounding House of Balloons and The Weeknd's intentional shroud of mystery, anticipation for Thursday (and Echoes of Silence) has only grown over the past few months. In June, interest only skyrocketed after two new tracks surfaced: "The Birds (Part 1)" and "Rolling Stone" (both, we now know for sure, are off of Thursday).

On Wednesday this week, The Weeknd posted this picture on Facebook, which slyly suggested that Thursday would be released on, uh, Thursday. And so, late last night, Thursday was indeed released for free download on The Weeknd's official website. I've only had a chance to listen through once, but I can say that there's no trace of sophomore slump here. Because House of Balloons was so well-received and critically praised, Thursday will undoubtedly have to exist in the shadow of its predecessor for a moment. However, after one listen, this new mixtape (really, isn't an album?) proves to be just as well-rounded, well-executed, and just as intimate, seductive, and darkly euphoric.

Unsurprisingly, The Weeknd's official site has received a TON of traffic over the past 24 hours, which has resulted in the site crashing or continuously being unavailable. You can download Thursday at the official site, just keep hitting refresh if it doesn't load. Or, you can try the direct link below (via the official site...saves you a click or two).
