LISTEN: Masa Lowe - Clinic EP

A mist has fallen outside, shrouding familiarity in a slight bit of mystery. Things appear rich with new shades of character. The cars that once lined the streets below as nothing more than nondescript pieces of the background now give color to the grayness that hangs outside. The world hasn't stopped spinning, but the way the mist blurs the vision of the landscape's details makes it feel particularly silent and calm.

With a collage of samples, acoustic guitar, breezes and waves of synthesizer, and programmed beats, Masa Lowe's 5-song collection Clinic anchors itself in the transportive qualities of mood and texture. The vocals are often panned to one side or emanate from a distance, buoyed by touches of reverb. It often sends you adrift with its spacey sound, but keeps you close with an intimate delivery. The ominous yet heavenly flow of the Hurricane Irene-inspired "Locked Outside (for Teddy and Irene)" captures the EP's overall style, with its chill, beauty, and multitude of textures.

Below, you can hear and download (for free) the Clinic EP.
