LISTEN: photocomfort - "My Mistake"

Heartbreak is such an unpleasant thing to endure. For a songwriter, it's an inspiration just as much as it is a painful feeling. It's been said that beauty can sprout from the darkest of places, blossoming out of something that appears so unfortunate and ugly. We could spend hours -- or rather days -- discussing all the great songs from the dawn of music to now that so eloquently and beautifully deal with such an unappealing thing like that of heartbreak.

"My Mistake" could be about the death of love or of a friendship, but, either way, it's a graceful, arresting, and incredibly warm piece that evokes imagery of sunlight coloring and brightening the shade of a valley and the monotone surface of the lake, moving freely throughout this landscape like the wind. photocomfort (aka Justine Bowe) sings with a lilting voice that sounds innocent but also wise and strong.  It's an absolutely golden sound that leads a wonderful orchestral/folk pop song that's just one standout on photocomfort's self-titled EP.

By all accounts, Justine Bowe is in her early 20s. But Quinn, why would that be something worth noting? Well, let's consider that Bowe handled all the songwriting on her self-titled debut EP and that she comes across as someone who's much wiser and experienced as a songwriter than people twice her age. And when you take all that into consideration, it's pretty amazing to wonder what she's capable of down the road.
