Well, it has been a while. I would really like to keep this updated a lot this year. I guess I will say that is a new year's resolution.
Although, like years past, I purchased a fair share of new music in 2006, I have not made and posted a list of my "Top 10" songs or albums. This is because I do not feel I came across enough of the music that was released in 2006. However, below you will find a list of albums and songs that I had the chance to hear. These are my favorite releases that I caught last year (in no particular order...save for alphabetical)...
ALBUMS:
Arctic Monkeys- Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Intelligent lyrics. Overhyped, but nevertheless a great listen. Alex Turner has something to say. The music is enjoyable, and provides the perfect platform for Turner to share his mind.
Band of Horses- Everything All the Time
Moments in an antique store. Driving country roads. Adventures in the summer. Nostalgic.
Grizzly Bear- Yellow House
Sheer beauty. Entrancing.
The Hold Steady- Boys and Girls In America
Craig Finn and co. create some of the most intelligent indie rock, with references to literature (the title of the album is taken from Jack Kerouac's book On the Road). Genuine guitar solos. Rock with substance. Listen to the story.
The Rapture- Pieces of the People We Love
This album made me think. Believe it or not. For those who like to dance and have a good time. A party for the mind.
These are some of the albums of 2006 that I enjoyed the most.
SONGS:
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead- "Naked Sun" from the album So Divided
Annuals- "Brother" from the album Be He Me
Birdmonster- "'Cause You Can" from the album No Midnight
Cold War Kids- "Hospital Beds" from the album Robbers & Cowards
Hot Chip- "(And I Was A) Boy From School" from the album The Warning
Peter Bjorn and John (ft. Victoria Bergsman)- "Young Folks" from the album Writer's Block
TV On the Radio- "Wolf Like Me" from the album Return to Cookie Mountain
These are some of the songs of 2006 that I enjoyed the most.
