LISTEN: New Music from These United States!

Some bands are incredible one-hit-wonders that have such stratospheric success most of us "folks" can't even fathom the royalties and endorsements. Some artists are blessed with voices that pierce the silence and producers that keep a hook bouncing around your head.

Unfortunately, much of the above dominates airwaves, clubs, and car stereos. These United States do not fit into either of the above categories, but they've got something that myriad musical acts cannot offer: consistently impressive songwriting.

On July 20, the tightly-knit group of 5 friends will release their 4th album in 2.5 years, What Lasts. "The Great River", the mp3 now available for your listening pleasure below, is just a damn good song. The fivesome are offering up a country-rock tune that has dynamic instrumentation and incredible connectivity, never lacking in a togetherness that some bands have no hope of achieving. And they're doing it in a genre (let's just go with indie/country-rock) that can easily offer up monotony in the place of creativity. Supported by the rather personal lyrics of lead vocalist and songwriter Jesse Elliott, These United States are poised to push further upwards in the world of music, and they've got the gigs to prove it.
