LISTEN: Oh Land - "Perfection"

Oh Land - "Perfection"

Pop music can be so empty. Too often it's a mass product, with a sheen that makes it feel as though it's been wrapped in cellophane. Music is supposed to express emotion, not be nothing more than a product for mass consumption. That's why Oh Land's "Perfection" is a treat to wake up to.

The first time I heard it, I was filled with a certain warmth. The opening few measures reminded me of the beautiful magic of "The Wizard of Oz." "Perfection" is tender and moves like an aural fantasy. It's symphonic pop with an undercurrent of ambient that's capable of drawing the sun up from the horizon. It possesses the cool of jazz and the allure of pop, making it feel rather encompassing. If Glinda the Good Witch of the North made music, I believe it'd sound something like this.
