LISTEN: Las Robertas - "Back To the End"

Guitar amps gargle a mouth full of distortion as this all-girl, Costa Rican quartet offers up an infectious cut of garage rock. Deep beneath the thick sea of distortion, it sounds as though there is an undercurrent of doo wop -- making it seem rather smooth despite its raw sound. It's the sound of teenage dreamers riding down the boulevard with the top down, sunshine spotlighting every move. In the bright melody, blare of guitars, and tom drum-heavy beat, you can't help but picture yourself in the back of a convertible, tracing the shoreline with best friends. It's a delicious cup of fuzz-topped rock 'n' roll that's well-aged and refreshing.

Las Robertas are Lola Miche (vocals), Monserrat Vargas (bass/vocals), Mercedes Oller (guitar/vocals) and Ana M. Valenciano (skins).

BUY: "Back To the End" is from the band's new album, Cry Out Loud. It's available through Art Fag Recordings on vinyl, limited cassette, CD, and digitally here. You can also pick it up on Amazon.
