Steel Phantoms - "Evening Routine"

Whether it's the new wave synth that enters in the choruses, the razor sharp, post-punk-style guitar that slices through the verses, or the calculated storm of cymbals and snare hits, "Evening Routine" can easily be the epitome of energetic. It's the sound of something wound up to the edge of limits, subsequently released to unfurl the pent-up power. As if the majority of the song didn't pack enough spirit to inspire a celebration, the latter portion makes for one hell of a rave-up. It's in these final moments where we find the repeated enthusiastic, almost frantic, proclamation "I think I'm on the verge of something big" and, in the seething conviction with which the line is delivered, it's hard to deny the sincerity and not get turned onto the passion that fuels the fire. This song might only be 1:57, but if it were any longer it might just explode -- and flirting with the idea of such a thing is always more appealing.

Would it have lost its edge had it gone on any longer? Probably not. But have you ever tried playing with this kind of intensity for more than two or three minutes? Damn!

"Evening Routine" is from Steel Phantom's 2010 self-titled EP. Check it out after the hop.
