FIRST LISTEN: Hear A Song from The Horrible Crowes (New Project from Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem)

Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem has quickly proven himself to be a strong songwriter with the 1-2 punch of 2008's The '59 Sound and last year's American Slang. A few months ago, Fallon announced that he had started a new project called The Horrible Crowes along with his guitar tech, Ian Perkins. The sound was said to be a bit of a departure from The Gaslight Anthem, which had many wondering just exactly what this new project would produce. Reading Fallon's personal blog "Cassettes In The Mailbox" only served to stir up more interest and excitement for what was in the works. Yesterday, the band shared a clip of a song entitled "Black Betty & The Moon" from their forthcoming debut, Elsie. Check it out after the hop.

It was expected that the project would be more laid back and soulful than Gaslight, and that's exactly what we get with "Black Betty & The Moon." At its roots, it's predominantly folky, but there's also a hint of jazz in there, as well. There's also been talk of a heavy dose of soul being present, and you can hear where that would filter into the band's sound.

A single is slated for release very soon. Stay tuned for more.
