Kavinsky - OutRun

A return to the past in music can often be a misguided journey, with homage taking precedence over creativity. Rather than looking to the future with a set of classic influences, the end result sounds relegated to refresh what’s already been done before. But in the case of French DJ/producer Kavinsky (né Vincent Belorgey), the past is just the palette upon which he creates the future.

Kavinsky To Release Debut LP, Hear "Protovision" Now

One of the biggest names in the French electro scene is Kavinsky, but you may know him best as the creator behind "Nightcall," the opening track off the Drive soundtrack. That's about to change with the forthcoming release of Kavinsky's highly-anticipated debut album, Outrun, on February 26, 2013 via Casablanca Records. The album comes on the heels of three well-received EPs: 2006's Teddy Boy, 2007's 1986, and 2008's Blazer.

Outrun may not be out until next year, but you can hear a track from it right now entitled "Protovision" via a brand new music video. Relive the magic of '80s car chases below.

LISTEN: Yojimbo Billions - "Collapsed, Unloaded"

Ever since I saw Drive last month I've been trying to track down a physical copy of the official soundtrack, composed by one Cliff Martinez (Fun Fact: he was the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers for a few years in the '80s). I finally ended up having to order it on Amazon, and it arrived in the mail yesterday. This particular soundtrack is absolutely fantastic and has kind of sparked an interest in the field of soundtracks. I spun the Drive soundtrack driving to $1 Beer Night last evening, and it was definitely a bit of a surreal experience.

This all brings me to Yojimbo Billions' "Collapsed, Unloaded."
