LISTEN: Yojimbo Billions - "Collapsed, Unloaded"

Ever since I saw Drive last month I've been trying to track down a physical copy of the official soundtrack, composed by one Cliff Martinez (Fun Fact: he was the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers for a few years in the '80s). I finally ended up having to order it on Amazon, and it arrived in the mail yesterday. This particular soundtrack is absolutely fantastic and has kind of sparked an interest in the field of soundtracks. I spun the Drive soundtrack driving to $1 Beer Night last evening, and it was definitely a bit of a surreal experience.

This all brings me to Yojimbo Billions' "Collapsed, Unloaded."

In terms of a soundtrack's success hinging upon the effectiveness of mood and texture, this particular song works wonders. It easily could be something to complement a visual piece of some kind, but, alone, it does well to evoke a sort of stark landscape that lies beneath a sky filled with a vast array of grays and warmer shades of neons. Yojimbo Billions has a knack for establishing a hypnotic background which sits against a more dance-oriented rhythm, or feel, that hovers in the foreground. It's an engaging mix of eerie, cold electronics and ambient's airy atmospheres.

Yojimbo Billions (aka Zach Vogt) is an electronic musician from Phoenix, Arizona.

"Collapsed, Unloaded" is from his new album, Our Bodies Are Machines, out November 15th on Waaga.
