Welcome to the New Mixtape Muse

Planet Earth

Happy New Year, everybody!

Welcome to the new Mixtape Muse. I updated the template and design, so please let me know if there is anything that's not working or seems wonky. I'm still working some kinks on the back end of things.

Mixtape Muse Is Now on Tumblr

That's right. I've finally caught up with all the hip things. Catch Mixtape Muse over on Tumblr right here. I'll be reblogging things that catch my ear and eye as well as posting random tidbits of film and music-related material. Consider the Mixtape Muse Tumblr as a quick delivery of what's exciting me and piquing my interest -- just reblogs and quick posts. MixtapeMuse.com is still alive and isn't going anywhere.

Mixtape Muse Isn't Dead Yet. So Here's A Video of A Corgi Being Vacuumed.

While you may have given up hope that I'll post with any real frequency, I do try to post at least once a week -- work has been keeping me busy (which, all things considered, is something I'm quite grateful for). But when you sit in front of a computer for a living, the last thing you really want to do is come home and spend another 2-3 hours in front of another computer. That's not to say I don't love writing about music, I just need a break -- which I won't be taking until I retire permanently from running this site. So, until the next post goes up (in a few hours), here's a video of corgi being vacuumed.

2013 makes it 7 years for Mixtape Muse. Not dead yet.

DOWNLOAD: The 'III' Mixtape

Well, that didn't take long. Due way back in April of this year, our third, free, mixtape is finally available for download right now. The last two have, more or less, had themes, but III is more of a general collection of tracks that have caught my ear over the past few months. Some you may have heard a few of these songs on the site over that time, while other songs are making their debut on the site. Like the past two mixtapes, my hope is that III introduces you to a new favorite artist/band and gives these talented folks even just a little bit more exposure. Sorry it took so long! Download and enjoy. Cheers, friends.

DOWNLOAD: The 'Happy Birthday' Mixtape, Celebrating 5 Years of Mixtape Muse

2011, surprisingly enough, marks the 5th anniversary of Mixtape Muse. For something that started as a place to post the playlists for my little 'ol college radio program, this site has grown into something I could have never imagined. To celebrate, I've created a mixtape featuring artists that have been favorites over the past five years/are friends or are simply new artists I've just recently discovered. When I began selecting tracks, I soon heard a sonic theme that sort of matched the cover art (above) -- which I, oddly enough, happened to pick out before I had even started curating the mix.

As a thank you to all you readers and supporters of Mixtape Muse, please accept this mixtape as a token of my gratitude. Download it (for free) and enjoy!

DOWNLOAD: Mixtape Muse's August 2011 Mixtape

The day has finally arrived. You can now download our first ever mixtape, simply titled "August 2011 Mixtape" -- because any title I came up with past that just sounded like I was trying too hard. Enjoy!

You Can Thank That Hurricane for There Not Being A Post Today

Oh, hey there. Sitting here at the tail end of my lunch break at work, finally able to use a computer. Ms. Irene knocked out the power at my house, and the local electric company estimates it'll be "a few more days" before power is restored. As a result, I couldn't prepare anything for today and just have a minute to type this post up before I head back to work. Check back tomorrow for this bad boy though.

A Note for Those Waiting On A Post, Waiting to Hear Back On A Submission

Just a quick note to those who've sent in a submission and have yet to hear back (to clarify, this is not in regards to press releases from PR firms). My inbox is a mess and, working full-time, I do not get an adequate amount of time to sift through everything promptly. Even if it's been a while, I've probably not had a chance to review your submission. Key points I'm trying to make:

A Note About Our Video Feature "Spinning"

That headline/title makes this sound like something serious, or it makes it sound like people were asking about it (they weren't). Anyways, you may have checked out the video(s) that have appeared under the header "Spinning" to the right of this page. If you happened to view any of them, then you're aware that it was a video feature in which I talked about what albums I had been listening to (and really digging). If you had kept tabs on the feature at all, you would have realized that I haven't updated it since the beginning of November 2010. I've been meaning to for the longest while, but I have continued to push it off for a later date. I wanted it to be a monthly thing, but sitting down to talk about what I've been listening to and then editing the video for release takes up more time than I'd like it to. As a result, I've opted to just post the artwork for the albums I've been spinning as of late.

I know, you're probably pretty torn up about this. I can hear your heart shattering. To mend that broken heart and cheer you up, here's the music video for Ratt's "Lay It Down," where a little boy makes a birthday wish to be a femine-looking dude who's attempting to seduce the adult version of the little blond-haired girl from his party...in a post-apocalyptic bomb shelter (?).
