LISTEN: J Pope and Funk Friday

Think global, play local. Sounds good to us, how about you?

Here on Mixtape Muse, we wade through tons of music to find content that strikes our fancy, and of course what we think you'd be into. Beyond that, we always try and support local acts (local being the Baltimore area), and it makes me happy to post something from some good friends of ours out of the Goucher camp.

Enter, J Pope and Funk Friday. Dan Samuels (drummer and band management) got this spritely group together to jam about two years ago, and they've been developing a great relationship with hip hop artist-extraordinaire J Pope ever since.

At a packed house at the end of this past January, Samuels and Co. backed Pope at her album release party and nearly brought the whole place crashing down with furious funk. The band isn't featured on the album, but I wouldn't count them out of the next studio release. Dig their Reverb Nation player below and check out Pope's album on her MySpace.
