VIDEO: ARMS - "Eyeball"

Yeah, it's safe to say that ARMS gets talked about quite a bit on this site. But, the point of this site has always been to showcase/promote artists from the indie music community. We've obviously branched out from this mission in certain respects, but I've always intended this site, at some level, to not only share what I'm into (along with Simon and Phil), but also what I/we think deserves more attention.

So, now I present to you the James Holland-directed video for ARMS' "Eyeball" off of the MM-approved debut, Kids Aflame. You probably see a thumbnail image below of an eyeball, so I'll just confirm your sneaking suspicion and tell you that the video does indeed include many eyeballs. It deals mostly with close-up shots of eyeballs from multiple people. On the surface, you might think it's kind of a cliched idea or too obvious to be worth your time, but you're at fault if you decide to pass on giving this video a chance.

Initially, I was kind of turned off by it because of how closely the camera frames the eye. I'll admit that recently things related to the eye have been kind of unsettling to me for one reason or another (don't get a piece of rust lodged in your cornea). In a way, the video carries a certain sense of irony as it is focused on the eye -- something so beautiful and infinitely intriguing that we commonly overlook (puns galore!). Holland manages to turn the eye into a being all its own as we can easily detach the eye from being just another part of the face. It creates a deeper appreciation for not only what the eye does, but for what it is.
